2008 Camp Schedule Children are immersed in the magical world of chess during our camps. Campers learn from our chess masters and professional teachers. Their chess knowledge and skill will grow quickly. June 16-20 2008: Hinsdale Chess Camp, at Katherine Legge Lodge Ages 6-14. Campers will receive master chess instruction from U.S. Chess Federation and World Chess Federation (FIDE) Masters, all of whom have vast experience in teaching chess to children. Our instructors will lead students through various activities, including tournaments, blitz chess, lectures, bughouse chess, and game analysis. The instructors will cover openings, endgames, tactics, and strategies. Games of the masters and the games of the campers will be analyzed. Campers will be placed in groups according to age and ability level. We will have physical activity, including soccer, everyday. Campers must bring a bag lunch daily. Please indicate t-shirt size and your ability level on the registration form. Camp is from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The camp fee is $300. Family discounts are available. This camp will provide engaging and entertaining chess instruction led by Washington School Chess Instructor Bruce Haffner. We will cover all aspects of chess, including openings, middle games, endgames, tactics, strategies, blitz chess, bughouse chess, tournament play and game analysis. Games of the masters and campers will be analyzed. We believe chess introduces important 4th grade math and science skills including analytical thinking and creative problem solving in a format that makes learning fun. Young children, ages 5-13, that are good at chess are usually good students. Campers must bring a bag lunch daily. The camp fee is $250 for the full day camp and $125 for the half-day option (family discounts too!) and includes a t-shirt.
